Do you agree when we say, hydration is one of the most vital and neglected keys to workplace success?
We believe so and if you don’t, after reading this, you too will understand the importance of workplace hydration and how proper water intake can help you stay energized and active.
Most of us blame low energy and inattentiveness on either a lack of sleep or unhealthy eating habits, and they are one of the reasons for it. However, where we don’t look lies the main culprit- inadequate water intake.
How much water do you drink during the workday?
When you are surrounded by deadlines, urgent projects, and tasks at hand, drinking water is something that only comes to mind when you get thirsty. We all know water is essential for good health, but you’d be surprised to know that far too many people are walking around in mild dehydration and you too may be one of them.
Everyone is looking for focused and active employees to grow their profits and productivity. And, to help you stay energized and alert, we have a great tip for you- be mindful of your water intake.
Why is workplace hydration important?
Hydration affects your body starting from your brain. Adequate water intake increases the functioning of the brain, helping you in your problem-solving skills. An adequate amount of water in your brain keeps your memory sharp, thinking clear and motivation intact.
It’s only when you are well-hydrated that your body can work actively and effectively. Dehydration can cause you to lose focus, and affect your body in negative ways.
Benefits of proper hydration at the workplace:
Besides being active and energized, hydrated employees tend to be more efficient in their work.
- Happy mood, happy employee
A balanced supply of H2O stabilizes the chemical properties of the brain preventing any mood disturbances. It assists in calming our bodies and bringing out positive energy.
- Healthy environment
A dehydrated brain becomes sensitive and pulls in negative emotions whereas a well-hydrated person is less moody and adds positivity to the healthy environment of the workplace.
- Stronger memory
Even if you are mildly dehydrated, it can adversely affect your memory. Staying hydrated maintains proper memory function.
- Increased productivity
You’d be surprised to know that even a 1% drop in dehydration leads to a 12% drop in productivity. So you can be your productive best only when you drink enough water every day.
- Stay focused and creative
Our brain cells are activated by water as it helps with the optimal functioning of the brain. Stay hydrated to stay focused and creative
How to keep yourself well-hydrated at the workplace?
Drink enough water, that’s just one of the ways to do it. Other than this, there are numerous ways to keep yourself hydrated at the workplace.
- Keep a water bottle with you and refill it from time to time
- Eat lots of fruits as they are full of water
- Detox your water by adding lemon, mint leaves, and fresh lime to it
- Electrolytes are also another good option to stay hydrated
