March is here, and so is Nutrition Month! The theme this year is Nourish to Flourish.
Nutrition Month is the perfect opportunity to hit refresh on your diet by making small and sustainable changes that can have a long-term effect on your wellness goals.
We aren’t talking about any new fads or crash diets, we’re talking practical steps that fit well into your everyday routine.
- Play the Rainbow Game
This is one of the simplest and best ways to give your body a multitude of vitamins and minerals. Eat at least 3 to 5 colors of food daily.
Red - Tomatoes, Strawberries, Watermelon
Purple/Blue - Blueberries, Eggplant, Plums
Green - Leafy vegetables, Broccoli, Grapes
Yellow - Banana, Corn, Bell peppers
Orange - Orange, Carrots, Sweet potatoes
2. Follow the Half your Plate rule
Every time you serve your meal, make sure half of your plate is filled with fiber-rich vegetables. It will help you balance your meal while making you feel fuller for a longer time.
3. Keep a Bottle of Water beside you
Water is the unsung hero of good nutrition. Carry a bottle of water with you wherever you are and keep sipping from it. Spice up your water by adding lemon, mint, or berries.
4. Include more Proteins in your Diet
Protein helps in stabilizing blood sugar, makes you feel full, and builds your muscles, and no, it isn’t only for gym-goers.
5. Make Smart Swaps
Tiny changes can make a big difference. Swap white bread for whole wheat, sugary snacks to fruits and nuts, soda for sparkling water.
6. Eat Mindfully
Make sure to give time to yourself while you eat to truly enjoy and savor your food. No multitasking at that time, please.
7. Focus on Meal Prep
Prep meals in advance. Plan your menu and buy healthier food options. Also, keep healthier snacks handy.
Remember, a healthy lifestyle is a choice and a mindset. You have to continuously make this choice. You can start by picking any 3 steps from this list to try for a week.
Cheers to a healthier, happier you this Nutrition Month.
