WHAT ARE ALLERGIES?
Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substances such as pollen, pet dander or foods that sometimes wouldn't cause a reaction in some people.
These substances called allergens are not typically harmful to your body but depending on the allergen, it can cause inflammation, sneezing or a host of other symptoms putting our body in potential danger.
Allergies are among the most common chronic conditions worldwide and its symptoms range from making you feel miserable to putting you at risk for life-threatening reactions.
Our immune system protects us from invading organisms that can cause illness. If you have an allergy, your immune system mistakes an otherwise harmless substance as an invader and overreacts to the allergen by producing Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies. These antibodies travel to cells that release histamine and other chemicals, causing an allergic reaction.
Our immune system produces antibodies that identify a particular allergen as harmful, even though it isn't and when it comes into contact with the allergen, the immune system's reaction can inflame the skin, sinuses, airways and/or digestive system.
The severity of allergies varies from person to person and can range from minor irritation to life- threatening emergency. While most allergies can't be cured, holistic treatments offer a complementary or alternative treatment to help manage your allergy symptoms or treat any underlying issues.
WHAT ARE ALLERGY CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS?
Everyone’s signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction are different and a number of different allergens are responsible for allergic reactions.
Typically, an allergic reaction triggers symptoms in the nose, lungs, throat, sinuses, ears, lining of the stomach or on the skin. For example in some people, allergies can trigger symptoms of asthma. In others, allergies can trigger itchy eyes or even swollen eyes.
In the most serious cases, a life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis can occur. Severe allergies can cause anaphylaxis, a life-threatening emergency that can lead to breathing difficulties, lightheadedness and loss of consciousness. If you experience these symptoms after coming in contact with a possible allergen, immediately seek medical help.

- Pollen

CAN I TREAT ALLERGIES WITH HOLISTIC HEALTH TREATMENT?
Always discuss your health concerns with a medical professional.
Preventing allergic reactions depends on the type of allergy you have. General measures include the following:
- Avoid known triggers: Even if you're treating your allergy symptoms, try to avoid triggers. For instance, you're allergic to pollen, stay indoors when pollen is high or if you're allergic to dust mites, vacuum and wash the bedding often.
- Track your activities: When trying to identify what causes or worsens your allergic symptoms, track your activities and what you eat, when symptoms occur and what seems to help.
Most allergies are manageable with avoidance, medications, and lifestyle changes. Allergy treatment often includes medications to control symptoms depending on the severity of your allergies.
Many natural remedies and supplements also help to subside and find the root cause of allergies.
Naturopathy, homoeopathy, acupuncture, massage therapy and other holistic health treatments are being widely used to help patients with allergies overcome not only their symptoms but also aid in preventing allergies.
